In this clip, Ms. Pat reveals the gritty realities of her teenage years in Atlanta, culminating in her becoming an underage crack dealer. At just 15-16 years old, she navigated a tumultuous life of early motherhood, working in less-than-ideal jobs, and dealing with an unsupportive environment. Struggling with financial instability, she turned to more drastic measures. Ms. Pat’s journey into drug dealing began when her children’s father, a drug dealer, went to jail. To make ends meet, she used part of her welfare check to purchase a small amount of crack, which she then sold, doubling her investment to pay rent. Despite her non-violent beginnings in the trade, Ms. Pat detailed how the drug game gradually grew dangerous.
