A Dictator’s Son May Win the Philippines’ Presidency

The Philippines heads to the polls to replace President Rodrigo Duterte, who leaves behind a bloody drug war as his legacy. The frontrunner, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, is the son of a former dictator who killed thousands under Martial Law. The second-place candidate, Leni Robredo, is the only female in the race. She vows to pursue justice for the victims of the drug war but is lagging far behind Marcos Jr., who promises to block international investigations into human rights abuses under Duterte.
