Dreamcar – DREAMCAR’s Road To Becoming A Band

Dreamcar – Interview: Dreamcar’s Road To Becoming a Band (Vevo)

Let’s just call ’em a supergroup. Dreamcar combines AFI’s singer Davey Havok and the guys from No Doubt – bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont, and drummer Adrian Young. With the latter band on hiatus while Gwen Stefani focuses on solo endeavors, the trio reached out to Havok and “started working on music just to work on music,” as Kanal told Rolling Stone. They kept their budding project under wraps until band’s existence was announced late last year. The results of their secret can be heard on their self-titled debut, featuring the video, “Kill For Candy.” Dreamcar’s sound evokes the new wave and synth-laden rock of the ’80s, stuff that was prime when these guys were in their teens. Now they’ve taken their cool and energetic show on the road, playing headline gigs and hitting the festival circuit. We caught up with them for a chat about their band chemistry, how they’re different than their other groups, and the definition of the term, “superside.”
