Rapsody – Laila’s Wisdom (Live at Vevo)

We’ve been Rapsody fans for a while now. The North Carolina MC with
the fierce flow and vivid rhymes has been on our radar since she dropped her ‘Return of the B-Girl’ debut seven years ago. Recognized from the start as a rapper with massive skills, she’s worked with some of the game’s most revered talents, from producer 9th Wonder to DJ Premier to Kendrick Lamar. A thoughtful writer from the get-go, she reminded fans of her artistic message – Culture Over Everything – on the cover to her ‘Thank H.E.R. Now’ mixtape. With a parade of incisive videos to her credit, she’s refined her approach through the years – there’s more authority in her voice with each passing year, and she never shies away from political opinions, identity issues and racial commentary. Check the fierce freestyle she delivered on “Complexion (A Zulu Love)” as part of our ‘Rhyme and Reason’ series. To celebrate the arrival of ‘Laila’s Wisdom,’ we invited this new member of the Roc Nation family to hit our recording booth for a ‘Live at Vevo’ session that includes three tracks from the album. And yes, the woman who once deemed herself a “black girl Jedi” crushed it at the mic. Check her takes on “You Should Know,” “Ooowee,” and “Pay Up,” and grab the new album to hear one of the most valuable voices in hip-hop.
